In short, competencies are the skills, knowledge and behaviours that lead to successful performance. In summary, core competencies, leadership competencies and functional competencies make a complete set of competencies, a competency framework, for any organisation. Additionally, functional competency profiles consist of generalist and professional tracks.
Firstly, core competencies are critical behaviours incapsulating an organisation’s mission, vision, values and strategic priorities. That is to say, all members of an organisation need to show the appropriate behaviour. For example, typical core competencies are integrity, teamwork, professionalism, openness to change and others.
Secondly, leadership competencies are critical behaviours anyone holding managerial or leadership positions in an organisation should adhere to.
Lastly, functional Competencies include the “know-how” expected of every officer or position holder. Therefore, they usually describe the behaviour indicators, job knowledge and technical skills that officers require to perform their daily roles efficiently and effectively.
In the following, some of our leadership development cards are shown as examples. First, the leadership competency “Being Analytical”.
Next, we display leadership competency cards for “Adaptability” and “People Development”.
